Easy Vintage Valentine's Day Decor Ideas (2024)

I’m sharing how I have created easy decor for this sweet holiday using vintage decor I already have on hand. Plus I’m sharing Valentine’s decor pieces that can be printed on your home printer!

Our home is open concept so when I decorate one room for a holiday, I have to consider the other rooms as well. The dining room, kitchen, and living room are open to one another and they need to have the same aesthetic. Our home is filled with vintage finds that we have come across at yard sales, antique shops, and thrift stores. It’s been so much fun to collect pieces of history for our home over the years.

We also used to sell our creations and vintage treasures in resale shops here in Delaware. So of course, every time I restocked my vendor booth, I shopped other vendor booths! It was a great way to see and collect old things.

If you enjoy vintage items as much as I do, be sure to frequent your local antique store and even your local thrift store regularly. That’s the perfect way to collect your favorite vintage pieces.

You can find vintage dishes, vintage plates, and old books in colors like red and pink that you can use for your Valentine’s Day decor. You can also use these pieces with red accents at Christmas and even the Fourth of July!

Let’s take a look at the easy ideas I have used in our home!

I used a gorgeous paint color in soft dusty pink called Tea Rose and painted these sweet little milk bottles. The bottles came in a six-pack for about $20. I’ve had them for years and have repurposed them several times.

Next, I disassembled some white flower bunches apart making several sections of floral stems. I already had these flower bunches on hand. The bunch of flowers cost about $7-$10 at Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago. I am sure I bought them at 50% off. They are always having a sale on florals!

Taking the floral arrangement apart made it easy to add a bit of romantic, wispy flowers to each of the pink-painted bottles. The great thing about the painted bottles is that I can paint them any color my heart desires!

Do you set your table between meals? I don’t often set the table but I always create a lovely table centerpiece for our dining room table. It’s usually themed according to the time of year. Valentine’s Day is no different. However, this table centerpiece could also be for spring! I like getting more than one season out of my home decor ideas!

One of my favorite things to collect is vintage ironstone. I’ve even started to add some red transferware to my collection. Green and blue transferware are popping up in my collection too!

The red is perfect for Christmas and Valentines Day. It’s fun to hunt for individual pieces at local antique malls and thrift stores. Often you can find pieces for just a couple of bucks because they are single pieces and not part of a set.

I got a little carried away when I said “dishes” since I love to collect dishes! Back to the vintage centerpiece idea!

Two of my favorite ironstone pitchers are on either side of a small collection of brass candlesticks. I filled the pitchers with pale pink flowers. Each pitcher sits on top of a small white plate with gold trim and it coordinates perfectly with the brass candlesticks.

BTW, battery-powered taper candles are the best! I will have them linked in the list of supplies for you later in the post!

The faux roses were at Micheals recently. Fortunately, I had a $10 off coupon that one of my daughters gave me so these two floral arrangements cost me next to nothing! The cypress branches were leftover from Christmas decor from a couple of years ago.

My brass candlestick collection is growing! I look for solid brass whenever I am out thrift shopping. I share a quick way to tell if something is brass here on my blog. You’ll find that post helpful if you want true brass.

Most of my brass pieces do not even match. But in my humble opinion, that adds to the curated vintage look I love for our home.

​vintage Valentine’s Day vignettes

In the dining room, I have a plate wall that I like to change out for the seasons. It lends itself well to holiday home decor. Last year I had the idea of hanging butter pats in the shape of a heart. Don’t you love that idea?

The idea popped into my head while I was creating an alternative Christmas tree idea. Well, the butter pat heart idea didn’t happen this year, but there’s always next year!

This year I changed out some of the plates for the red transferware and small green Olde Curiosity Shop plates. They are the perfect green for our home. I also added a heart-shaped watercolor art piece from my printable library. The colors are perfect, don’t you think? You can access the printable library by signing up below!

The sweet little vignette on the thrifted communion table we have starts off with a large ironstone soup tureen that has a missing lid. That’s not a problem for me. It’s why I got the huge ironstone piece for just a couple of dollars!

I added some faux pink baby’s breath flowers along with more of the same white flowers I mentioned earlier. Faux cypress sprigs are the base of the arrangement.

The whole arrangement sits on top of a stack of red books. These belonged to my hubby and they are from The Happy Hollisters series. It’s so cool to still have those books in the family!

​I kept the other ironstone soup tureens, vintage silverware, and glass pillar candle holders out for Valentine’s. You just can’t go wrong in any season when you decorate with ironstone!

Valentine’s decor for the mantle

​The mantle was fun to decorate this year! I created several free printables for my subscribers and among them are these adorable heart cutouts! The hearts come on a sheet with four different designs.

If you print them on watercolor paper, they will look so authentic! I glued them onto some thin brown craft wire and then placed them on the mantle. The ends are tucked under the brass candlesticks and the centermost heart has double stick tape to hold it up.

If you are concerned about the paper hearts near the fireplace, rest assured they are clear from the flame. You could also put the hearts on the mantle leaning them against other pieces like the candlesticks or vintage ironstone pitchers.

Either way, the best part about this Valentine’s decor idea is that you don’t have to store it in your seasonal storage room! Yep, I plan on using them as kindling after the holiday! I can always print more next year.

The painted glass bottles with the florals help to frame out the TV art. We bought a Samsung Smart TV a few years ago as our Christmas gift to one another and I have never regretted it. You can find vintage art on Etsy that is sized perfectly for the screen for only a couple of bucks. I shopped and found several that I love and I will share them in the list of supplies below.

While we’re on the topic of the Frame TV, we made our wooden frame and plan on doing a tutorial. Are you interested in that type of project? Valentine decor for the kitchen

As I said earlier, our home is open concept. While I didn’t go all out for the holiday in the kitchen, I did add some simple and leftover floral stems and hearts to the kitchen island. I pulled out a large ironstone platter and placed a red transferware pitcher filled with button flowers in the center.

Then I placed some of those same white flowers on either side of the pitcher along with more of the heart cutouts. It’s the perfect amount of Valentine’s Day decor for the kitchen!

​Let me also mention that the heart cutouts could also be used as greeting cards. Once cut out, the hearts will fit in an invitation envelope. You will also see in the free printable library that I have included Valentine’s Cards in the standard size.
